General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Swelling if feet during 3rd trimester of pregnancy could be due to following reasons:
1. Pressure on the blood vessels of the abdomen due to enlargement of uterus leading to stagnation if blood in the lower limb.
2. Decreased albumin levels - could be due to nutritional deficiency or increased excretion through kidneys.
You can get the following investigations done to rule out the decreased albumin levels.
1. Serum total protein, albumin levels and Albumin/Globulin ratio.
2. Urine albumin.
In case this is normal, it could be due to pressure on blood vessels. You need to take care by sleeping in lateral position and keep Tue foot end elevated while sitting for longer duration.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
