Have swelling and tightness of feet, ankles, calves mainly. Awoke with swelling under eyes today too. Has lasted over a month. I am 6 foot, 380 lbs, have diabetes and sleep apnea. Had blood tests, all seemed normal and proteins and blood sugars were in normal range. My doctor has said simply that i need to cut back on my sodium consumption???

Hi,

Swelling and tightness in the feet, ankles, and calves can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
* Poor circulation: If blood flow to the legs is restricted, it can cause swelling and tightness.
* Heart problems: Congestive heart failure or other heart conditions can cause fluid buildup in the legs, leading to swelling.
* Kidney problems: Kidney disease or damage can cause excess fluid buildup in the body, leading to swelling.
* Liver problems: Liver disease can cause a buildup of fluids in the abdomen and legs, leading to swelling.
* Inactivity: If you are sedentary or sit for long periods, it can lead to swelling in the legs.
* Obesity: Being overweight can put extra pressure on the legs, leading to swelling and tightness.
* Medications: Certain medications, such as blood pressure medication, can cause swelling in the legs.
* Lymphedema: This is a condition where the lymphatic system is unable to remove excess fluid from the body, leading to swelling.
* Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the body retains more fluid, leading to swelling in the legs.

In your case, your doctor has suggested cutting back on sodium consumption, which can be a helpful first step as excess sodium can contribute to fluid retention. However, given your medical history and the duration of your symptoms, it is important to continue working with your doctor to determine the underlying cause of your swelling and tightness. They may recommend additional tests or referrals to specialists, such as a cardiologist or nephrologist. Additionally, losing weight and increasing physical activity may also be beneficial.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
