What Causes Swelling And Discolouration In Left Foot?

My 17 year old daughter has a swollen left foot which is discolored (darker reddish gray). It is not from any injury or trama, but started about a week ago with pain and swelling in the big toe and has now spread to swelling across the entire foot. Pain is not getting worse and confined to the big toe—which is also very still and she unable to move it. No bruise-like discoloration, just broad gradual discoloration which extends to about the calf. The natural color seems to return in part when she elevates her foot. Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Gene

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through question, I can understand your concern.

There might be developing cellulitis secondary to minor toe injury.
Toe injury may be due to some pricking or may be simple nail cutting (deeper at corners).

You should take her to your doctor for detailed clinical examination including distal pulses.
Depending upon clinical examination there may be need for following investigations-

- Complete Blood Count.
- Ultrasound doppler of involved leg.

Depending on it appropriate decision can be made.

She should use pain killers with anti-inflammatory like aceclofenac with serratopeptidase and trypsin and bromelin.

Antibiotic like Amoxicillin with clavulunate may required.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
