Dear Pumla,

Since your pregnancy tests are showing negative results even 10 days after the missed period, it is unlikely that you re pregnant. You seem to have some hormonal imbalance.

If you are overweight, you have to consider possibility of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome first. This can be confirmed by blood examination for FSH and LH. Ultrasonography also can help for the diagnosis.

It can be managed by controlled high protein, moderate carbohydrates and low fat diet. Also inclusion of plenty of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables in diet is useful. Keep your BMI between 18.5 to 24. You may require birth control pills for regularization of menses. However, if you are keen to have pregnancy, Tab. Clomiphene citrate may be given to you. If they fail, other medicines for induction of egg release may be tried.

Also get Serum Prolactin tested. Its increased levels do cause infertility with sometimes menstrual irregularities.

Other hormonal imbalances like Thyroid also cause irregularity in menses.

Please report to the Gynaecologist to get investigated thoroughly to start the appropriate treatment.

I hope this helps you.
