What Causes Soreness In Throat With Thick Green Mucus?

There seems to be thick green mucus sitting at the base of my throst. When I cough some comes up with blood. Sometimes there is just blood and the mucus just rattles in my throat. Stuck. Giving me a feeling as if I'm choking. I have lost my voice but seem to have no other symptems. My throat is only slightly sore from the coughing. This is the 2nd time this has happened in the past 4 or 5 months.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have soreness in throat with thick green mucus which could be due to infection of sinuses/ tonsils. The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as granular pharyngitis. Sometimes allergic reaction can also become add on factor . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like blood test , vital culture test and throat swab test .You can continue acebrophylline and montelukast for 15 days. Take nebulization with salbutamol and pulmicort. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory drug . For now do warm saline gargles and avoid hot and spicy food .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
