What Causes Sore Throat And Swollen Lymph Gland In Neck?

The lymph gland on the right side of my neck is swollen.........approximately 1 week now. I have taken Doxycycline for 4 days. I went to my physician with a mild sore throat and difficulty swallowing and he said I had a virus. Feeling very tired. Having pain in my right ear (I do have Meniere s disease). My ears were clear at the physician office. I had mono at the age of 35, but both sides of my neck were swollen at that time. I recently just had shingles, a mild case. Could there be any correlation between these 2 viruses? When the mono virus is present, can the lymph nodes on just one side of your neck be swollen? I feel the same way as I did when I had mono several years ago. The gland is slightly smaller now, but still palpable and causing some difficulty swallowing. I am 55 years old now. I had a recent small CVA due to a clot passing through a large PFO in my heart which I had repaired 9 months ago. I feel since then, my immune system has been altered, if that is possible. I seem to get sick so easily whenever I am exposed to someone who is ill. I am a nurse, but recently received my disability due to vasodepressor syncope and the effects of the CVA. Could this be mono? Also, what can I do to boost my immune system?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You have sore throat and enlarged cervical lymphnode. You may have upper respiratory tract infection. It can be viral infection alone or with super added bacterial infection. You should take antibiotic treatment. Azithromycin or levofloxacin can be used.
It is prescription based medicine so consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. Your lymphnode enlargement is due to reactive hyperplasia. It will be normal after clearing of infection.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
