Hi I have had a sore shoulder in the back and have pain when breathing deep. I sat outside one evening and was just thinking I probably got cold in my shoulder. It is not going away. Some symptons are: tightness in shoulder where muscles join, breathing deep ache in front same area. shortness of breath with exersion, I may want to mention that i have a mechanical aortic heart valve...... 2 years with no problems.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be pleuritic pain or due to lower respiratory tract infection so a chest X-ray should be done to rule it out. Also chest X-ray to rule out any crepitations or rhonchi should be done.

If any you may need anti histamines like Cetirizine as well as antibiotics like Azithromycin etc. OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful. If normal, it can be muscular spasm and may need muscle relaxants like Tizanidine or Orphenadrine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
