What Causes Shortness Of Breath While On Xarelto?

They found clots in my lungs, legs and other places in my body which they felt were caused by my birth control. The birth control was stopped and I was started on xarelto. Still having shortness of breath pain on right side intermittently. My primary doctor has only told me to follow up in 6monts. Oh I also have sickle cell. Is there more I should be doing and do they need to check some type of blood levels while I am on xarelto.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you should get done
1. CT pulmonary angiography
2. Coagulation profile
Intermittent chest pain in pulmonary embolism suggest possibility of pulmonary infarction due to progression of emboli.
Since you are on blood thinner medicine, we need to check its effect by coagulation profile.
If this drug is fail to produce desire thinning effect on blood, embolism wil worsen.
So we need to check it.
You may need other drug increase the dose to achieve target coagulation profile.
Better to consult haematologist as you are also having sickle cell disease.
