What Causes Short Term Loss Of Vision In Left Eye After Sleep?

Hi,A few times I have woken up in the morning and I could hardly see from my left eye. If I cover my right eye I could hardly see anything. After a few seconds my vision returns. Today I was awake but lost it for a few min from the same eye. I couldn t see the center of my son s face but was able to see all around the center. What can be happening?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern.
Centre of vision is captured by a very important area of retina known as macula. It occupies just 5% of total area of retina but it captures most of the visual information.
You have not provided your age, sex and history of other illness. There can be many reasons for this kind of symptom like macular degeneration, decreased blood flow to macula due to atherosclerosis, retinal artery occlusion, glaucoma etc.
It should be carefully examined by an Opthalmologist. So, it is highly advisable to consult an Opthalmologist.
Hope this will be helpful.
Take care.
