What Causes Sharp Ear Pain And Tonsillitis?

Occasionally I have a pinching feeling on my right side tonsil. If I turn my head or look down while swallowing it will feel like it pinches and makes my right eye tear. I tend to feel congested just on the right side and often have the lump in the throat feeling. Is this normal or should I get it checked out? I did have strep throat and tonsillitis often as a child and teen.

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have sharp ear pain and tonsillitis . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to sore throat , it can be bacterial or viral . Also infection has traveled from sore throat to ear through eustachian tube . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test along with examination with laryngoscope and otoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibactrial ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) , anti viral ( acyclovir ) along with anti allergic and decongestant . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam .
