What Causes Severe Tremors While Having Parkinson S Disease?

Hi. My best friend thinks he has Parkinson s disease. He has severe tremors and shakes, but not all the time. He is also a very heavy drinker and has been for over 30 years. Can the symptoms of heavy drinking be mistaken for the symptoms of Parkinson s? I keep telling his he should quit drinking to test whether he still has the symptoms. Drinking does not stop the shakes and tremors but he says it does calm his nerves.

Hi There

After going through your query I understand your concern.

I would like to tell you that body tremors are one the major symptoms of withdrawal that may arise when you stop taking alcohol after long period of binge drinking. other symptoms may include anxiety, depression, irritability, seizures, insomnia etc. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms are strongest in between 24-72 hours after the last drink.

He needs a medical attention, kindly consult with a Physican or take him to a Rehab center.

Hope to have been helpful.

Kind Regards
Dr. Navneet Bansal
