What Causes Severe Sore Throat And Ear Pain While On Amoxicillin?

My symptoms started with a severe sore throat, ear pain and headache and I lost my voice. After three days I went to the doctors and they put me on Amoxicillin 875 mg. I'm on my second day of the antibiotics and the headache is still their and now I'm nauseous and I've developed a cough along with a stuffy nose. Should I continue taking the Amoxicillin?

Hello,

If I were your treating doctor for this case of headache, stuffy nose, and nausea, I would come up with one possibility and that is strep throat. Diagnosis can be confirmed by rapid antigen test and physical exam only. Treatment should be antibiotics like Amoxicillin. You can take Paracetamol which is an OTC medication. You can add 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of warm water and gargle 3 times per day. Do take medication up to 48 hours after full recovery. Do not stop it, before recovery, at all.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
