What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Leg?

I have a severe pain in my leg between my ankle and knee, not my calf.It has been hurting for 2 days, and is not stopping, and I can not sleep and Pain medicine (tramadol) or Aleve,or acetaminophen 650 meg (2 of them) at a time are not helping. The pain is inside the leg,and I think it might be swelling. The pain starts out light and then gets very strong, like a sharp stabbing. What could be wrong???? YYYY@YYYY . Thanks Judy

Hi,

If the pain is associated with any sort of fever or chills or swelling, it can be an infection and you need to visit a dermatologist and get a course of antibiotics, you will be healing in a week.

If you feel pain without any other symptoms the region you mentioned, the pain could be sciatic nerve compression. For that, you will be needing complete rest and further consultation from a neurosurgeon. Painkiller plus rest will help you during meanwhile.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
