Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have nerve pain(burning, stabbing, in feet, legs and lumbar spine 24/7. I do have some nerve damage from spinal injuries and surgeries. It is getting much worse. Left leg is numb from knee to toes. Right leg drags when i walk and causes me to stumble and fall. I do not know what the real issue is or how to find out. I do know it is worsening.
The pain you are experiencing is likely due to nerve compression/damage associated with the spinal injury. Underlying neuropathy contributing to the pain should also be considered. Neuropathy can be ruled out through nerve conduction study.
Nerve (neuropathic) pain can be managed with anti-seizure medication Gabapentin. You can also apply over-the-counter Capsaicin cream for pain relief. Please be advised to follow up with your primary provider/neurologist for necessary evaluation and management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal,
General & Family Physician
