HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
The pain that you are describing may be
neuralgia (nerve related pain). Neuralgia typically behaves in this manner.
It is usually due to neuropathy which is abnormal function of the nerves. This can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.
Some of the more common causes are: (1) diabetes
(2)trauma to the nerves responsible for the area. IN this cases this would be in the spine or at the hip
(3)liver or kidney disease
(4)side effect of medication
(5)low levels of
vitamin b12 or folate
(6)exposure to toxins
(7)nerve diseases such as ms or a
stroke though stroke is very unlikely
(8)
thyroid disease
(9)autoimmune diseases such as lupus or RA
(10)infection such as shingles
(11)idiopathic- in some cases the cause is not known
To determine the cause, if the symptoms continue, you would need to be assessed by your doctor
This would include a complete history of your symptoms and any related conditions, physical examination and blood tests.
Blood tests may include vitamin levels, screen for diabetes, screen for thyroid disease, infection, liver or kidney check.
Medication would be given for any specific condition detected but there are medications that can treat nerve related pain eg
amitriptyline or gabapentin
I hope this helps
