What Causes Severe Itching On The Scalp Along With Sore Nodules?

I have experienced an itchy & sore nodules Scalp condition for the past 6 months. I have been under stress to some extent and have seen LOCAL DERMTOLOGIST! He has prescribed a treatment of HC 2.5 % Cream, and Clobex Spray.. plus a Coal Tar Shampoo twice a week. His concern is that the reoccurrence is due to the stress which I have been experiencing and I have taken 1/2 Xanax 0.5 tablet twice a day.. In addition I have tried Claritin Antihistamine once a day. The Xanax does gives some relief. The symptom associated with the itching is a major concern to me! Is there a topical alternative for relieving its intensity? Perhaps there is a specialist in the Philadelphia, Pa. area that concentrates in this particular condition that is recommended?
Thank you for your attention.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms of severe itching along with sore nodules over the scalp can be due to bacterial infection of hair follicles known as Folliculitis..
It can also be due to fungal infection leading to Seborrheic dermatitis in case if there is also white flakes or dandruff along with sore bumps..
It seems most probably like Folliculitis..
The medication HC 2.5% cream and Clobex spray are both steroid based and will help in reducing itching and sores..
But you may also ned antibiotics or antifungals depending upon the exact cause..
I would however suggest you to consult a Trichologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of Folliculitis you can be advised to take oral antibiotics, along with anti allergic like Allegra and continuation of coal tar shampoo and steroid lotions..
In case of fungal infection antifungal shampoo containing Ketooconazole, sulfide, coaltar, zinc, salicylic acid etc can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
