Hello, for almost 1 year I ve had this itching under the skin only on my right foot. It seems to come and go, but lately it s getting worse. Nothing seems to make the itch go away. It s below my pinky toe and the toe next to it. Sometimes it s my toes that itch, but mostly it s the pad on the foot below my 2 little toes. It s definitely under the skin. What does this sound like?
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. Severe itching in the area of the underside of the 4th and 5th toes and just before the area is very indicative of a skin fungal infection. At times, with fungal infections in this area, the skin can break down and it is possible to also get a bacterial infection as well in the area. The area doesn't need to be really red and inflammed to itch, sometimes it will with even the slightest fungal skin infection. In mild cases, usually topical anti-fungal cream will be effective, but in some cases a prescription strength medicine will be needed. I hope this helps answer your question, if you have any further questions, I would be glad to assist. Thanks.
