Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been to ENT Doctor and have had three scopes done of my throat. Specifically my vocal cords. But my voice still sounds like gravel. I have a deeper cough once in awhile. And just a little phlegm. I don't have any problem breathing like bronchitis. I have an organ transplant. For many years
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe hoarseness and deep cough. Well the symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards upper respiratory tract infection , which can be caused by bacterial or viral infection and it could spread to larynx as well and leads to infection and inflammation of vocal cords. Need not to worry. For now continue doing gargles and drink one spoon of honey mix with glass of lukewarm water. You should take steam inhalation along with vaporizers. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order test like viral culture test , throat swab test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out causes like acid reflux . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial amoxicillin or anti viral acyclovir depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants. Avoid hot, sharp, and spicy food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
