What Causes Severe Discomfort After Eating?

This has happened twice in the last year: I eat a fairly large sandwich in the middle of the work day and then within an hour I feel great discomfort and a little breathing, dehydrated distress. An hour later, I m fine again.The prelude to this is that I am a 6ft mildly asthmatic male who is otherwise healthy (even cardiologist said so during a routine checkup). I don t normally eat large meals at work and it was a noticeably humid day while I was doing small amounts of manual labor right after eating.Could it be that I am eating too fast and some gerd causes asthma?

Hello,

There can be various reasons for the severe discomfort after eating sandwich during lunch time such as:
- Acute gastritis
- Gastric ulcer
- GERD
- Food induced allergy
- Others

Guidelines for better recovery:
- Consume more liquids at times
- Chew your food thoroughly
- Prefer easily digestible food stuffs such as rice, curd, mung (sprouted), organic fresh fruits
- Avoid spices, non veg, junk foods, dairy items till possible
- Avoid smoking and alcohol if consuming
- Keep stomach empty to 25% of satiety value
- Intake of proton pump inhibitor as Nexapro or Esomeprazole (20mg) with sips of water on empty stomach twice a day
- Avoid stress and anxiety
- Maintain regular sound sleep of 8 hours
