Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Constipation most commonly occurs when waste or stool moves too slowly through the digestive tract, causing it to become hard and dry.Severe constipation could be caused by a number of medical conditions. Some possible causes may include:
-Blockage in the colon and rectum like cancer, stricture, rectocele
-Problems with nerves around the colon and rectum like in autonomic neuropathy, MS,
spinal cord injury
-Difficulty with muscles involved in elimination like in anismus, dyssynergia, or weakened pelvic muscles
-Conditions that affect hormones in the body like Diabetes,
hyperparathyroidism,
pregnancy, hypothyroidism
With all these possible causes, only a keen medical evaluation by the Doctor may help identify the exact cause.I will suggest you try the following:
*Take a pain medication like ibuprofen for your pains
*Drink enough water
*Take enough fruits like soft pawpaw but avoid fruits like bananas which instead constipate
*Take fiber rich diet
*Continue with your laxative
I will advise you see a Gastrologist if the problem persist. You may need tests like a stool exam,
colonoscopy, colonic transit test for initial evaluation and an abdominal CT scan.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
