What Causes Severe Chills With Shivering After Liver Transplantation?

My husband is 4 weeks out from a liver transplant. Twice in the last week he has gotten the severe chills with shaking that lasts about 20 min. Both times were in the morning but with no fever. What would be the reason for this? Should we be concerned?

Hello
I understand your husband had a recent transplant.
As such he is on chronic immunosuppressants and is at risk for many different infections.
Having chills ( even without a fever) could be a sign of infection, or could me a sign of organ rejection.
He should have laboratory tests to rule out an infection and check drug levels.
Some people who have had recent organ transplants need to be hospitalized due to low white blood cell counts and may receive IV antibiotics and or neupogen to bring counts back up.
Hope your husband gets better soon
