What Causes Severe Burning Pain In The Ankles While On Azithromycin?

I took a pack of azithromycin starting last Wednesday for bronchitus. Friday or Saturday I stepped out of bed and a hot burning pain shot up my left ankle and leg. Now I can hardly walk on it....there s swelling and warmth and extreme pain when first beginning to walk. And I have to keep weight off it as much as possible. In 2005 I took Levoquin and wound up with a similar issue which was awful tendonitus that took weeks to get over. Does Azith..... cause tendonitus, also?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction. I recommend using antihistamines daily such as Levocetirizine. I also recommend using Calamine lotion for local relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
