What Causes Severe Body Tremors And Rapid Breathing While Suffering From Croup?

My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with croup on Thursday. She woke me up out of sleep tonight because she was shivering so badly and breathing so rapidly. She doesn't have strider but is breathing 34-36 times a minute. I expected the shivering with the fever and some increased breathing but should the shakes be so violent and should the breathing be so fast?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain Croup is a Viral infection causing Cold and cough, fever, and difficulty breathing due to narrowing of respiratory passages due to infection causing inflammation..
Shivering or tremors can be due to febrile convulsions caused due to high fever secondary to infection..
You need not to worry as when the fever will reduce the tremors will also subside..
You can give her Tylenol for reducing fever..
Increased breathing is due to an attempt to avail more oxygen to breathe as she must be finding it difficult to breathe..
You can give her Steroid nasal spray, steam inhalation and decongestant nasal drops for opening nasal passages and helps in breathing..
Make her sleep with chin down and keep pillows below her head as it will ease in breathing..
In case of no improvement consult her treating physician and get evaluated..
