What Causes Severe Anxiety And Depression While On Imipramine?

Years ago I took imipramine in tablet form for depression and it worked wonderfully for me. I am now exhibiting anxiety and mild depression and asked to be prescribed imipramine again, as The SSRIs put me out in left field. But, my current doctor prescribed the capsule form. Is there a difference therapeutically or with side effects between the tablet and the capsule? Also, my script says to take it at bedtime. Can I take it at another time of day? I know this drug is not used much any more, but it did work for me 35 years ago (I am 65). Joanne

Hi,

Imipramine is tricyclic anti-depressant and yes it may be more effective then SSRI. However because of lot of side effects tricycle antidepressants are not used more these days. SSRI has much less side effects.

However this is not always the case if you are happy with the Imipramine, you can use it specially if you have no cardiac issues. It is still used many times. There is no difference in capsule and tablet formulations regarding its effects.
