General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it is used for breaking thick secretions however mouth hygiene in critically ill patients can be due to fungal infections or thrush.

Repeated cleansing with glycerine rinsed gauze piece and using oral nystatin can be helpful. Vitamin C and zinc replacement orally can be continued too. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
