What Causes Redness And Swelling Of The Labia Majora Region?

Hi there My right labia majora is swollen and it is very painful to the point where I can cry. It is painful to walk or sit and even sleep. At first I thought it was a bartholin cyst but it s a bit higher up. Like parallel to the clit. I have no other symptoms like itching or discharge. There is just the swelling and unbearable pain. I m not sexually active. Please help on what this could be and if I can self treat. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think it is an infected Bartholin's cyst. Try warm and cold baths in order to stimulate to drain a cyst by itself. Clean and disinfect properly. Put ice on it. Use antibiotic ointment. Also oral antibiotics may be needed.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
