Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Rashes On The Hands And Legs After Taking Diclofenac?
My husband has been taking diclofenac for back pain. Now he has hives and itchy raised red patches on his back, hands and legs. Seems like an allergic reaction. He hasn t taken the drug since Sunday. Does he need to go to the ER or can he go to urgent care in the morning? His breathing is not affected, it is normal.
I understand your concern. Skin rash has a major but not uncommon side effect of Diclofenac. It should not be overlooked and your husband should see or call his doctor as soon as possible. If contacting the doctor is not possible then going to the ER is your next best option for peace of mind, however, it is not a life-threatening issue, when isolated and not accompanied by other symptoms such as agitation, blurred vision, change of consciousness and difficulty breathing. I'm sure you know this, but refraining for taking another dose of Diclofenac is the sensible thing to do. Wishing you good health and all the best.
