What Causes Red Itchy Rashes All Over The Body Of A Child?

Hi. My daughter who is 8 years old has developed a red bumpy rash all over her body this evening. It has gotten worse within the last few hours. She does not have a fever and she said it doesn t hurt, but it is starting to itch a little. Last week Wed (03/02/16) she had came down with strep and had a fever of 100.6 and was put on amoxicillin for 10 days twice a day. She is not allergic to any foods or medicine that we know off. Could this be chicken pox or is it possible that she is having an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin? She took the amoxicillin this morning but not tonight. She was fine all day until this evening.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your daughter is suffering from allergic reaction and as she is taking a course of antibiotics since ten days it seems to be most probably due to Delayed Allergic Reaction to it..

While other causes can be allergy to any food or Contact dermatitis caused due to any skin cosmetic etc..

In case if it is due to allergic reaction to amoxicillin it will get resolved with the stoppage of the drug and intake of anti allergics like Benadryl..
Applying calamine lotion over the rashes and doing cool compresses will help..

In case if it is not due to amoxicillin and if symptoms persis after stopping amoxicillin then you should consult an Allergist and get allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the allergen and once you know the cause of the allergic reaction you can avid exposure to it to prevent allergy attack..

She can be advised to take anti allergics like benadryl ..
She can also be instilled an Immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack..
Once the allergen is ruled out avoiding exposure to it can prevent the allergy symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
