What Causes Recurring Cramps In The Front Part Of The Lower Leg?

Over the past 2 to 3 weeks I have been suffering from cramps that occur without any logical reason in the front lower portion of my left leg. Not the upper leg, not at the rear and never in the right leg. I usually take one magnesium tablet each evening with my meal. Would appreciate your advice. John.

Thank you for your question,
There are three main muscles in anterior compartment of lower leg, tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum and extensor hallucis. There many disease demonstrating cramp and pain in this region.
1.     Severe exercising, injury and muscle overuse.
2.     Pregnancy, mineral deficiency like calcium and magnesium, potassium.
3.     Cold temperature.
4.     Peripheral arterial disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and multiple sclerosis.
5.     Peripheral nervous system problem.
To rule out and approach to your illness, you demand to consider on the ethology written above. According to my experience, I recommend you at first use enough vegetables and minerals. You can also take magnesium, however I suggest replace it with multivitamin + minerals capsule including magnesium. You can reflect this to your own doctor to use appropriate dosage for this purpose. It is a good idea to test your blood for Hb, cbc with full count, FBS, BUN, Cr, minerals, ESR, etc.
It is a good idea to perform appropriate exercise regularly and physiotherapy on your leg muscles. Message can help in this case. Keep your leg always warm except when you face with severe cramp and if your doctor has prescribed cold compression for your leg.
Hope you find my advice helpful,
