What Causes Recurring Cough And Sore Throat Despite Taking Prednisone?

I was diagnosed with bronchitis, given a 5 day course of antibiotics and some cough medicine. The cough mostly went away, and the bronchitis symptoms went away fairly quickly. After the cough medicine ran out, the cough came back, and I developed a sore throat. I was given two new cough medicines, and prednisone for the bronchitis which the doctor suspected did not fully leave. I was fine for about a week, the cough is gone except for a random dry thickle, but the sore throat is back, local to the left side, and my ear itches deep on the left as well. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The symptoms appear to be caused by infection of the ear leading to recurrent episodes of sore throat. The ear tube or Eustachian tube is the communicating tube between ear and throat. X-ray of ear or CT scan, throat swab culture, x-ray para nasal sinuses can help diagnosing the problem. Consider seeing a GP to get ear examined and get tested.
Thank you.
