What Causes Recurring Chest Pain And Fever?

Over the last six months I have been experiencing episodes of chest pain and fever. It s a pain in my chest and my throat that worsens when I take a deep breath. I also become short of breath very easily. I develop a fever and just feel awful. I m also very tired and become physically fatigued easily. I eventually lose my appetite and become nauseous. One of the times I was very lightheaded. This has happened three separate times from May-present. I went to the doctor twice in May and a chest x-ray and CT scan were completed but no issues were found. I found out a few days ago that my co-worker has latent Tuberculosis and we work in a homeless shelter for women. I m wondering if I have active TB?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From your history of fever and chest pain, living with a co-worker who has latent T.B, most probably you can have an active Tuberculosis.

The typical signs and symptoms of T.B are fever with night sweats, weight loss, productive cough , chest pain etc.

As you have done chest x-Ray and CT-Scan, but these are not the only tests for the diagnosis of TB. There are some other tests which has to be done like, Sputum for Acid Fast Bacilli, throat swabs , Tuberculin test.

At this time you need to go to your physician and rule out Tuberculosis by doing tests for TB.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
