What Causes Rectal Prolapse?

Hello, I m 32 years old diabetic and over the last 8 months my anus has slowly seemed to detach itself and is sliding down my left leg. Every time I go number 2 my feces seem to be coming out below my testacles on my left leg. I have had weight problems for my entire life and suffer from mild aggorophobia. What can be causing this? When I pass gas it feels like I am doing it directly on my testacles. -thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rectal prolapse occurs due to the weakening of ligaments and muscles surrounding rectum. It can occur due to a variety of reasons including obesity, straining associated with constipation, hemorrhoids etcetera. Please be advised to follow up with your primary provider to identify the underlying issue. Avoid constipation by drinking plenty of water, eating a diet rich in fiber like oat, bran, vegetables, and fruits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
