What Causes Rashes On The Body While On Brilinta And Eliquis?

I am on Brilanta & Eliquis as I had stents put in March. I am allergic to these medications (had tried all related to Plavix). Break out in hives, welts etc. Dr s have put me on Steroids, Benyaldrl, antihastimines, but nothing works. I have to be on this medication till March, but suffering terribly with itching-can you suggest something.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is true that around 6% of patients starting antiplatelet treatment will experience allergy. Steroids is the best treatment strategy recommended (usually 3 weeks taper of prednisone).

You are currently on this treatment. The recommendations are to continue taking antiplatelet therapy. Otherwise, in stent thrombus will happen or even death.

That's why the doctor advised continuing taking them and managing the itchiness with steroids and antihistamines. Can apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream locally.

Keep regular follow-ups with your caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
