What Causes Rapid Heart Rate Along With Dizzy Spells?

I am 5 foot 7 inches tall and weigh 350lbs. I know I need to lose weight, but am really concerned as lately I ve been getting some pretty serious dizzy spells and over the last week or so I feel as though my heart wants to jump out of my chest. I checked my heart rate (I was not exerting myself in any way) and it was 117bpm. Any idea what could be going on?

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Saddiq-ul-Abidin. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

People with your height and weight ratio(BMI) can be prone to heart diseases. Usually palpitations can be caused by three problems.
1) Premature ventricular beats.
2) Supraventricular tachycardia.
3) Normal anxiety.

Premature Ventricular beats can be first sign of heart ischema I would suggest you to place a finger on your pulse when you feel palpitation and see if pulse volume is normal at every beat, if pulse is normal for three beats the comes a weaker beat or something like that, then it can well be a PVC.

Supraventricular tachycardia is also a common finding in obese patients It is theoretically not a life threatening condition.

You increased heart rate can well be because of your anxiety, but still i would suggest you to keep a check on your resting pulse rate.

SUGGESTIONS:
I would suggest you to:
1) Not to panic.
2) Try to reduce your weight.
3) Get physically active.
4) Visit a doctor and get workup done like cholesterol, sugar levels fasting and ECG.
5) If an abnormality is found your doctor might wanna do you Holter's monitoring.
6) Use the medicines regularly as suggested by your doctor.
I hope this answered your question. If you have more queries I am happy to answer.Otherwise rate and close the discussion
