What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding After Insertion Of Mirena?

I had mirena inserted on 4/3/17, it was put in during my period. On 4/18 I started having heavy bleeding with painful cramps that lasted about 12hrs. As of today I am still bleeding. The deeding will be bright red one day then a few days later it will darken only to be bright red again. It has been doing this for over 10 days now. Is this normal?

Hi, I think mirena can lead to excessive bleeding in 1st few months. You can take some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. If it doesn't work, you may need a high dose of progesterone to stop the bleeding. It can be due to some vaginal infection also. So, I think you should consult a gynecologist for complete examination. You may need some antibiotic also. Hope it helps.
