What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

Hi I have been on my period for 20 days excluding spotting. So about 4 days before my period, I had very light spotting and then for the next 20 days (today is the 20th day) I have still been on my period. The first 13 days were extremely heavy with massive clots (much bigger than a quarter) and now i barely have any clots and I can tell I’m bleeding less. It’s like a medium flow. What is going on with me? I feel perfectly fine. Except for this period. I have no pain (except a seperate issue of what seems like tinnitus, but still painless) I am 20 years old. Definetly overweight . I’m 5”8 and a half and weigh 270.My period has always been a medium flow with minimal clots and only last about 5-7 days. This is the first time this has happened. Also I want to mention that in January I missed my period.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management you can take drugs like Tranexemic acid to control bleeding. You have to consult a gynaecologist and get evaluated. You have to get an ultrasound scan to look for conditions like PCOS which can cause similar symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
