What Causes Profuse Menstrual Bleeding?

QUESTION TO GYNECOLOGIST. My wife aged 37 has been complaining of abnormal and profuse bleeding during her periods, for quite some years now..Of late she has been even diagnosed to be prone to be anaemic and weak due to heavy blood loss, often in clots, during her menstraul cycle. She feels tensed, and depressed due to same. What is the treatment? Can she regain her normal life leaving behind all those anxieties? Pl suggest. Thanks, A.Nath

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think she needs a total gynecological evaluation. Possibly she needs to do an ultrasound, pap smear and colposcopy. She needs to evaluate the place of bleeding.
Possibly fybromyoma or endometrial lining thickness can cause this problem. She can take progesterone to help bleeding stop.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
