What Causes Popping Sound In Jaw Along With Difficulty In Chewing?

My jaw has been having discomfort for a few years now. Its only on the right side, and I need to turn my jaw to the right side to open it comfortably, but then it will pop and lock. Its hard to chew now because my jaw always pops every single time I open it. And im not sure if this is related, but that side of my jaw hurts whenever I cry.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern. as per your query popping sound in jaw along with difficulty in chewing is mainly because of temporomandibular disorder which means arthritic changes in joint causes popping and pain. Stress and facial muscles paralysis is another cause of this. I would suggest you to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol for temporary relief from pain. Donot chew hard from that side. Warm water compressor applied on affected side can also help in relaxing the jaw muscles and relieve pain. Do mouth stretching exercises. Visit dentist once and get it examined. Treatment could be medicinal or surgical.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get well Soon.
Best Wishes,
