Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 50 year old female -I have noticed in the past year that I am unable to remember things short and long term. Its a big joke to my friends and family but this has brought me to tears. I could not tell you what we served at lunch today at my job. I have been on Prozac 60 mg daily, Trazadone 50 mg daily, Gabapentin 2400 mg daily. I had breast cancer 2012 followed by a bilateral mastectomy. Hysterectomy 1999. No head injuries. I also have a history of severe alcoholism and drug addiction, 2 years sober from alcohol. I was adopted, I only know of histories of diabetes and arthritis. Please give me some kind of direction
Memory loss needs further evaluation for dementia. Dementia can be due to several causes like hypothyroidism, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, vitamin B12 deficiency etc. You need extensive evaluation including mental status evaluations, blood investigations and imaging studies of brain.
Trazadone can also cause memory loss. So it is also important to discontinue trazodone. Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for the necessary evaluation and to see discontinuing Trazadone is right for you.
Hope this answers your question Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
