What Causes Polyphagia?

Hi, this has just started around the beginning of this year, but I noticed that when I m standing still for a short period of time, or this also happens when I m walking, I get this very sickly feeling in my stomach, like I m extremely hungry. so I would usually eat something or drink something. But I ve found that eating and/or drinking something has just made me feel sicker faster than when I wouldn t eat or drink anything. I also get this cramping feeling after I get the feeling that I m extremely hungry. and by that time my back also starts to act up, I get dizzy and usually come close to puking. I ve also been curious about my back, since I m very young. I would think that your back wouldn t go inward towards the bottom, where your tailbone is, but I might just be wrong. something just seems off about the depth it goes towards my stomach, and I wonder if that s the cause of my case. it could also be nothing, and I m probably just a worrywart! but I would be pleased to have your opinion on it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Polyphagia is a medical term used to describe excessive hunger or increased appetite. There are several potential causes of polyphagia, including diabetes, hyperthyroidism, anxiety, depression, and certain medications. It is important to speak with a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.

The symptoms you described of feeling sickly, cramping, and getting dizzy after eating or drinking may be related to gastrointestinal issues such as gastritis or acid reflux. Your back pain could potentially be related to posture or spinal alignment issues. However, it is difficult to determine the exact cause without a proper medical examination.

It is recommended to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms and receive a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
