What Causes Persistent Productive Cough Along With Headache And Fatigue?

My 12 yr old son has had a heavy cough for the past 4 days with green-yellow phlegm. He's run a low grade fever on & off for 4 days along with headaches and fatigue. He returned back to school today and feels 8 out of 10 he said. I listened to the back with my ear pressed to his lungs and i hear slight bubbles. Is this walking pneumonia? I'm not wanting to rush him in to get antibiotics, but don't want to see it get worse. Thoughts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son is suffering from Upper Respiratory Tract Infection commonly known as Common cold and all the symptoms of cough with phlegm, fever, fatigue and headache can be due to it and it is commonly a viral infection and there can be secondary bacterial infection along with it..
As it is already 4 days, now you should consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and he can advise him to take antibiotics like Levofloxacin, for fever and body aches and headache Tylenol can be given, decongestants can be given to relive congestion and mucolytics to ease in draining mucous..
Steam inhalations, warm saline gargles and using a humidifier in his room can help..
Take ample of rest, take soft diet, avoid chilled foods.
You can do warm compresses over his chest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
