Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Pelvic Pressure Post Hysterectomy?
I just had a hyterectomy two weeks ago and am still experiencing a lot of pelvic pressure. I thought have my 388gm uterus would decrease the pressure on my bladder etc. pain i was experiencing from fibroids all throughout my uterus. Will this pressure ever go away or did my intestines and diaphragm just drop into my pelvic cavity on top of my bladder. I look pregnant. Also I remember everything inside (intestines) just completely sloshing from one side to another everytime I moved or up and down from lying to sitting standing and I thought is this ever going to stop. It did but now it feels like a mass in my lower abdomen. Is this just all of my intestines hanging out? This is scary if so shouldn t your intestines remain suspended in your middle to upper abdomen? I m having trouble with having a bowel movement now? Is this because my intestines are now just lying in a pile at the bottom of my pelvic cavity?
* As per my surgical experience, the persistent pelvic pressure after hysterectomy can be related to indigestion and intestine bloating due to prolonged bed rest or inactivity.
Kindly follow simple measures as below
- drink more liquids
- consume high fiber diet
- bulk-forming laxative as Ispaghula husk
- allowable exercises and walking
* Discuss the need of ultrasound examination of the pelvis with your doc during next scheduled follow up.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
