What Causes Pelvic Free Fluid Shown In CT Scan?

I had Stage IIIB cervical cancer 2.5 years ago and had a radical hysterectomy, chemo, and radiation. My most recent CT scan says I have a trace amount of pelvic free fluid that requires another CT in 3 months. What are the possible causes for the fluid

Hi,

Noted your history of stage IIIB cervical cancer treated 2.5 years ago with Radical Hysterectomy, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy; the recent CT scan shows ''trace'' amount of free fluid in pelvic cavity and needs to be followed after 3 months.
If your CT scan is showing ''trace'' amount of free fluid without any other evidence of recurrence of cancer then nothing to worry about.
Since you have not mentioned, I take this is to be normal variation and not to worry about it.
There can not be any other specific cause other than the treatment you have taken can have this finding.
Follow up should be done by ultrasonography, CT is not \needed for such follow ups. Discuss this with your Doctors.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
