What Causes Persistent Pain On Inner Side Of Knee?

Having frequent pain on the inner side of my knee. Seems to be getting worse with time, had X-rays, only showed mild arthritis. Seems worse at night while sleeping, the pain waking me Up two or three times every night for 5 or 6 weeks. Had two cortisone injections which didn t Help. The pain is wearing me down, especially waking me a couple of times every night. Should I consider surgery to see what is going on inside my knee?

Hello,

You are suffering from persistent pain on the inner side of the knee. You have arthritis. You have taken cortisone injections and still you are hurting. Other medical conditions that can cause pain on the inner side of the knee are OA, gout, bursitis, medial meniscus injury, knee contusion, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an Orthopedics. Get blood works done to detect OA, RA, gout, etc.

Get X-ray and MRI / GOUT done. You will be accordingly treated. Get urinalysis (R/E and C/S). You should include anti inflammatory food in your regular diet. You can take Combiflam, one SOS when needed to get relieve from pain and discomfort. Take low purine diet, avoid alcohol, smoking or addictions of any. Take 1-2 liters of water and fluid daily.

You are suggested to take Combiflam or Naproxen, one SOS when needed to get relief from pain. You can also apply pain relieving ointment or sprays on the area affected. You are suggested to get connected to a physical therapist. Do regular exercises and walking. Doing exercises and walking will help to keep your joints lubricated and reduce pain. You can take vitamin E rich food or vitamin E supplements (Evion -400), once daily for 10 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
