What Causes Persistent Cough In An Infant Despite Administering Erythromycin?
My 1month old have severe cough and was given erythromycin alongside antibiotic injection at d hospital. Upon discharge from d hospital they gave us another amoxicilin and piriton to administer for 7days. It s after 7days now and the cough still persists. Please what do you recommend
As per my clinical experience, the persistent cough with severe nature may be an early sign of underlying pneumonia or other resistant lower respiratory tract infection.
* In my clinic, after thorough clinical examination, I do recommend
- regular temperature record over period of time every 4 hours - Check for pulse oximetry and oxygen saturation, respiratory rate and pattern of breathing if any grunting is there or not - Inhalation of vapors of boiled water added tincture benzoin solution - Addition of dextromethorphan and guianphenecin over the above medications as Amoxycillin and anti histamine Piriton. - Adequate breast milk support to boost the natural immunity
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
