What Causes Painful Cramps Post Salpingectomy?

I had a salpingectomy about 5 weeks ago due to an ectopic pregnancy. They said there was a lot of scar tissue in the tube. I just started my period. And am having a lot of cramping and pains. I usually don t have any pain with my period. Is the pain normal?

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. The occurrence of cramping pain during the menstrual period in the current cycle is usually seen subsequent to the surgery. As the tissue heals and scars regress, there is a contraction of the peripheral musculature. If adhesions have formed after the salpingectomy, as often noticed with an ectopic pregnancy, this pain may persist, in which case further evaluation becomes necessary. You can use chymotrypsin or serratiopeptidase to help dissolve tissue induration and help faster healing. Antispasmodic medication helps to relieve the pain. Hope this helps.
