Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What causes pain under the arms? My husband who is 80 years old. He says the pain feels like it is in the glands. This comes and goes. It usually comes about 7 o,clock. This is about the third time that he has had the pain in a week. My email address is YYYY@YYYY .
** Thanks for contacting with your health concern and according to Age following can be the possibilities:
1. pain under the armpits could be due to bacterial/viral infection and if he thinks it to be coming from the gland it could be swollen lymph nodes [lymphadenopathy] or could be due to a malignancy [Hodgkin's lymphoma]
2. Sometimes mild inflammation [skin irritation], autoimmune disease [RA,SLE,Sjogren's syndrome, sarcoidosis] can present with pain in glands under the armpit.
3. It is advisable to check with your attending doctor to determine the nature of the lump with detailed medical history and physical examination since treatment will depend upon the cause of the swollen nodes [if there]
