What Causes Pain On Top Of Foot After Resting?

I broke my foot five years ago. It was a small fracture on the top of my foot, I forget which bone. I was on crutches for one month, and my foot seemed to heal just fine. About six months ago, I tried to take up running, but quit due to pain in that same foot - the pain was in my arch and heel. Now, the
pain seems to have moved, and it feels like the top of my foot is broken! It hurts a lot after resting, to the point that I have to walk with a limp. After I've walked on it for awhile, it "loosen up" and is somewhat better. I should add that I am on a diet and exercise regimen to lose 30 pounds. I'm hoping that the pain will go away as I lose weight, but I worry that it is permanent. Maybe arthritis, or something due to the break years ago? Thank you.
