What Causes Pain In The Right Thigh While Having Varicose Veins?
I am having throbbing and pain in my right thigh....it hurts more when I lay down to sleep. Just started hurting more this afternoon. I m 69, have spider veins. There is a history of blood clots in my family--my younger cousin died from blood clot in legs in her early 20 s due to use of birth control pills before getting married. Should I go to ER? I am currently caregiver for my 73 yr old husband, who has broken ankle (2 weeks ago) & his right leg is in cast, & I have to help him even taking him to the bathroom & putting him on toilet & wiping him....long story. His cast will probably be on for another 4 to 6 weeks? I don t even know who to call to be there with me IF I do go to ER tonight.....it s a Friday night....I ve been having extreme fatigue due to my caregiver status to my husband the past 2 weeks--lots of physical and emotional stress....I ve made an appointment with my family doctor for Monday morning, but that was for the fatigue. The throbbing of the right thigh was worse when hubby and I just laid down for a nap at 4:30 pm.....once I m up it s still there but I guess I don t notice as much when I m moving about. Any suggestions? The throbbing comes and goes. Thanks

What Causes Pain In The Right Thigh While Having Varicose Veins?
Hello, It could be due to venous stasis. We have to rule out other causes like peripheral neuropathy and disc prolapse. As a first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated. A detailed evaluation is required including venous Doppler and MRI. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
