What Causes Pain In The Lower Leg While Having Arthritis In The Hip?

I have been experiencing some moderate achy pain in my left leg, running down my leg from hip to lower leg. It is achy, but does not interfere with movement. There is no tenderness or swelling. It actually feels like what was referred to as shin splints in my lower leg. I do have arthritis in that hip. The pain does not interfere with sleep. It is an irritation more than anything.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems to be neuropathic pain likely due to involvement of sciatic nerve though a neurosurgeon review and X-ray of lumbar spine may be done to look for any possible cause. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful. Nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin can be used as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
